Who We Are

Reverend Barbara Samuel wears two hats. She is an Ordained Minister and the Spiritual Co-Leader of CSLKenya and the Musical & Artistic Director at the Center For Spiritual Living Kelowna, Canada.

She brings to her Ministry, experience and energy.  Having participated in many International conferences supporting the Centers For Spiritual Living, a personal highlight was acting Musical Director for the 20/20 Vision Kenya Conference.

Committed to carrying on the Vision of Reverend Connie Phelps, Reverend Barb is pleased to unite her heart with the Kenyan community accepting the Call to serve as Co-pastor with Reverend Gwen Smith.  Working alongside the powerful and capable Boards of Trustees, our Kenyan community is held in the highest of high.

Blessed to be part of a magnificent team to continue to grow, share, bless and teach the philosophy of the SOM to Kenya and beyond, Reverend Connie’s Legacy lives on.

Rev. Barbara Samuel

Hello, my name is Rev. Gwen Smith. It is with joy, privilege and honor that I join Rev. Barbara Samuel as Center for Spiritual Living Kenyan's new co-pastors.  I began my studies of Science of Mind in September 2007 and have continued to embrace this teaching ever since becoming an Ordained Minister in 2018. As staff minister at CSL Kelowna, C.anada, I have served as a teacher, volunteer coordinator, membership coordinator, on the BOT and a part of the Music Team.

I am delighted to step into and accept this Calling to serve Spirit and the Kenyan community. And equally delighted to be working alongside Rev. Barbara and both Boards of Trustees. Everyone is working diligently to uphold Rev. Connie's vision for her beloved Kenyan family and friends.  I feel deeply connected to all those that I met at the 2020 Conference in Nairobi and in the zoom classes. I want you to know that each of you are loved and supported as we all experience the transition of our dear mentor, teacher, friend, colleague and sister, Rev. Connie Phelps. Love moves us forward.

 Blessings, Rev. Gwen

Prayer Ministry

“We are not depending upon chance but upon the Law.  The responsibility of setting the Law in motion is ours, but the responsibility of making it work is inherent in its own nature.”         Rev. Dr. Ernest Holmes

What is spiritual mind treatment?
Spiritual Mind Treatment is the knowing and trusting in a Universe with Universal Consciousness, Universal Mind.  In the infinite allness and power of our Oneness we consciously choose and then place, within mind, a specific thought expressing our wholeness, perfection and completeness. Treatment is also known as affirmative prayer.

Treatment opens the mind to infinite possibilities expands consciousness and lets our truth be freely expressed and lived!

What is a practitioner?
A practitioner is a person who has been trained through Centres for Spiritual Living in the art, science and skill of Spiritual Mind Treatments.
They are:

  • dedicated to the cause of serving others

  • licensed and professionally bound by a code of ethics

  • all services are strictly confidential.

A practitioner looks beyond the problem to the Spiritual Truth of your wholeness and perfection.  This reveals solutions, opportunities and possibilities.

If you are having concerns in the area of relationships, health or prosperity; or if you feel that you are too close to your problem to believe there is a solution, please “treat” yourself to the services of a licensed practitioner.

We know that with God all things are possible.
Therefore, whatever the problem, there is an answer.

CSL Kenya has magnificent Practitioners that are committed to serving this community.

Declaration of Principle

We believe in God, the Living Spirit Almighty; one, indestructible, absolute and self-existent Cause. This One manifests Itself in and through all creation but is not absorbed by Its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.

We believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in everyone, and that all people are incarnations of the One Spirit.

We believe in the eternality, the immortality, and the continuity of the individual Soul, forever and ever expanding.

We believe that Heaven is within us and that we experience it to the degree that we become conscious of it.

We believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is sure to be attained by all.

We believe in the unity of all life, and that the Highest God and the Innermost God is One God.

We believe that God is personal to all who feel this Indwelling Presence. We believe in the direct revelation of Truth through the intuitive and spiritual nature of the individual, and that any person may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the Indwelling God.

We believe that the Universal Spirit, which is God, operates through a Universal Mind, which is the Law of God; and that we are surrounded by this Creative Mind which receives the direct impress of our thought and acts upon it.

We believe in the healing of the sick through the power of this Mind.

We believe in the control of conditions through the power of this Mind.

We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving Kindness, and the eternal Givingness of Life to all.

We believe in our own Soul, our own Spirit, and our own destiny; for we understand that the life of all is God.

Global Vision

We see all life as an expression of God.

We see a peaceful world that works for everyone.

We see humanity awakening to its spiritual magnificence.

We see a world in which people live in alignment with spiritual principle, emphasizing unity with God and each other and the creative power of thought.

We envision a world in which individually and collectively we are called to a higher state of consciousness and being.

We see a world without boundaries, where each and every person has enough food, a home and a sense of belonging, a world of peace and harmony, enfranchisement and justice.

We see a world in which there is generous and continuous sharing of all resources.

We envision a world in which forgiveness, whether for errors, injustices, or debts, is the norm.

We see a world which has renewed its emphasis on beauty, nature, and love through the resurgence of creativity, art, and aesthetics.

We see a world in which fellowship with all life prospers and connects through the guidance of spiritual wisdom and experience.

We envision a world in which we live and grow as One Global Family that respects and honors the interconnectedness of all life.

Officially I have held my Practitioner License through CSL for the last few years.  Unofficially from the first treatment I ever wrote, I ever spoke – I was a practitioner.  To recognize that there is a Power for good operating in the Universe and that Power is within me has been one of the greatest gifts I could have ever given myself.  This above all has been my own journey and with each treatment there is a deeper realization of Love in my life.

My journey was shared with the Calgary JOY of Life Centre for Spiritual Living community for 13 years. Here I took my first tentative steps as a community member, a student and for many years a member of the Board of Trustees. This is where I celebrated my initial installation as a Practitioner.

My journey now is to expand beyond the four walls that I have known: to bridge the miles of this world by a click of the computer mouse as the Universe know no space: to open myself up to possibility – for expression and expansion beyond what has gone before. Like a fledgling bird, I have to fly on my own wings and seek my own nest.  Thank you for welcoming me into your community….

Officially, I have been licensed for 16 years through the . I joined Religious Science in 1990. I became a practitioner in 2002 servinge the Center for Spiritual Living, Greater Las Vegas. During this time, I have taught and created classes, served on the Board, headed up various groups such as the Women’s Circle, Community Enrichment Committee, and the Global Heart Connection. I also lead the bookstore team for about 5 years. I have had the privilege of teaching three different groups of Practitioner II students as they navigated their way through studying, paneling and licensing.
I believe strongly in service. I believe that God lives through me. I believe that there is only Good and I believe that I have been put on this planet to share, to teach, and to walk this path of coming to know God and therefore, myself in a deeper way. I live a life of reflection. I assume responsibility for my “stuff” and I believe that the Power for Good in the Universe uses me. My job is to listen and say, “Yes!”
I have come to Centre for Spiritual Living Kenya as a natural next step in my calling to serve. My international outreach committee, Global Heart Connection, in Las Vegas has supported Rev. Connie’s Centre for the past three years through fundraising, prayer support, and partnership. I grew up in a global world and it’s time for me to now serve globally. I appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow alongside the members of my new community.

Michael Kiragu

Michael is a Religious Science practitioner licensed in the year 2020 who strongly believes in service. He believes that all people have the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives and there are tools to support this realization. He also believes that there is a Power for Good that each one of us can use. Over the years, he has come to understand that ultimate fulfilment naturally ensues when we allow this Power to use us. He believes that he is here to remember who he really is - a divine, infinite, unique, beloved and treasured child of the Universe. On this journey, Michael cherishes the idea that others can also look within themselves and discover the great divinity that resides in each person. As a practitioner, his goal is to support others to know that we are all entitled to love, happiness, well-being and abundance by divine birth right.

Michael is the current chair of Conscious Living Foundation and a member of the Centre for Spiritual Living, organizations that aim to make available the philosophy, teaching and community that is Science of Mind in Kenya. Michael is married with 3 children and lives in Nairobi.  Michael’s background is in medicine and works as a public health consultant and grant writer.

Christine Okili Khatima

My name is Christine Okili Khatima. These are names in my identification, not my birth names, which are Christine Khamasi Sakali. I am from Eregi Village. I am 50 years old.

About 10 years ago, after a lifetime of hardship and not being able to find a church that felt right, I started my journey of discovery. I started reading spiritual books and I started discovering my spiritual awakening. I met Rev. Paula Langguth during my spiritual journey. When she did a treatment on me, I just loved the treatment and I was so excited to know more. After some time in 2015, I met Rev. Connie Phelps and I started my Science of Mind journey and it has been an amazing journey. I'm so glad and I have been happy being on this journey. It has been amazing. As a Practitioner, I have seen love and light. I have seen peace and I'm so happy I found Science of Mind. Today, I am on my journey to ministerial classes and I'm so excited to see what else is possible. My life is amazing and I'm so happy. All is unfolding in truth. Today I see myself walking the journey of ministry and serving at CSL Kenya.
